For forty-three years, John practiced business law in areas of capital formation, mergers and acquisition and, for the last 20 years of his career, corporate governance. He was recognized by The Best Lawyers of America in 2014 as the best Corporate Compliance Lawyer, in 2013 as the best Mergers & Acquisitions Lawyer, and in 2010 as the best Corporate Lawyer in Columbus, Ohio.
He also served 11 years as managing partner of one of the larger law firms in Ohio; As managing partner, he was recognized by the Martin Luther King Center as Outstanding Corporate Citizen and by the American Bar Association for support of women in the practice of law.
Known for his programs on the duties, role and functions of a non-profit and for-profit boards, their committees, and management, John has led programs on, and facilitates organizations in considering, executive compensation, strategic planning, succession planning, best practice evaluations, and building an expertise board (a board whose members are chosen based upon the expertise they have rather than, like Congress, the constituencies they represent).
Having served on SEC advisory committees, John also has experience with private offerings of securities for small businesses, including raising venture capital, early seed rounds and series "A" et al rounds.
John is an experienced speaker and presenter in programs of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies; the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America; the American Council of Life Insurers; the Ohio Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, American Association of Corporate Counsel, Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, Ohio Society of CPAs, West Virginia Society of CPAs, National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Ohio Department of Insurance, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Montana Hospital Association, Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, among others; John has also received the Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award from the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Performing and Cultural Arts.
He has had numerous articles on executive compensation, governance, board governance and operations, management, mergers and acquisitions, Sarbanes-Oxley, the Securities Exchange Commission, and other public disclosure and reporting published in Business First, a publication of American City Business Journals; Corporate Governance Report; Lexology; Corporate Board Member; and Directorship among others.
In addition to being on several governing boards, John is a certified mentor of SCORE and member of the leadership team of its Colorado Springs Chapter.
